Sania and Sohrab are long time friends or you can say childhood "friends" and are going to be married soon, in all probability in 2010.

Sania Mirza’s name has been linked to a lot of big celebrities like Marat Safin and Shahid Kapoor. Sania is no less than any Bollywood star in India, and enjoys a strong fan base all over the world.

In 2009, Sania Mirza won the Australian Open Mixed Doubles title playing with Mahesh Bhupathi, which was her maiden Grand Slam title. Sohrab Mirza, born in 1985, is a year older to Sania Mirza, and is presently planning to go to the UK to pursue MBA. Sania Mirza is currently playing in the French open, so she was not available for any comment.

In 2006 Sania Mirza was awarded the Padma Shree, which is the fourth highest civilian honor in India. The engagement date has been set for 10th of July. As a Muslim she had faced a lot of flak from the orthodox Islamic factions the world over for her attire but hey I'm sure those orthodox people will never comment on Salman who takes his shirt off at the drop of the hat.Or will they?

Shah Rukh Khan Abhishek Aishwarya Rock at Karan Johar's Birthday Party

A guest says, “There was a lot of bonding happening; and rightly so. After all Karan’s party was the last major do for the summer of 2009. Next, he and Shah Rukh leave for the US to shoot My Name Is Khan. They’ll be gone for two months. That means Bollywood’s most influential folks will not get a chance to boogie-woogie and bond till August.

More A-listers were spotted here than one could keep tabs of, but some details have made there way out of the venue. Obviously, an insider has been doing the talking...

Who Made it to Karan Johar's Birthday Party
Shah Rukh-Gauri, Abhishek-Aishwarya, Hrithik-Sussanne, Saif-Kareena, Karisma, Ranbir-Deepika, Imran-Avantika, Arjun Rampal-Mehr, Shahid Kapur, Rani, Farhan Akhtar, Tusshar, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Vivek Oberoi, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia and many more.

Notably missing from Karan Johar's Birthday Party
Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Karan’s good friend Kajol. Some were away from Mumbai, while others were down with flu.

Dress code at Karan Johar's Birthday Party
Karan asked men to be in formal suits. Most guests obliged, though a few like Hrithik went casual. Most women were in tiny dresses. Like on most occasions, birthday boy Karan wore black.

Highlights of Karan Johar's Birthday Party
* Karan dragged Abhishek to Shah Rukh and the two ended up chatting for sometime, with Ash looking on. So is it the end of Khan-Bachchan cold war?

* Kareena and Ash were seen chatting and dancing. Pleasant surprise considering after Abhishek and Karisma’s engagement broke, Kareena had put a ban on all things Abhi.

* Riteish and Genelia came separately; Shahid and Vidya were seen leaving together.

* Shahid and Kareena made no effort to chat, while Ash made an effort and avoided Vivek Oberoi.

* Hrithik, Abhishek, Arjun and Farhan climbed on the bar counter and danced.

* The party ended in the wee hours of May 26.

Unfortunate event of Karan Johar's Birthday Party
It was unfortunate that Karan, while being a gracious host to his colleagues, extended no hospitality to the media which had turned up to cover the event. Angry with the ill treatment, most photographers banned the party and you missed seeing the photos.

Watch Salman Khan Promoting 10 Ka Dum

Salman Khan was affable and forthcoming at a Sony Entertainment Television press event to announce their new programming lineup for 10 Ka Dum late noon on May 21, at the ITC Grand Maratha.

The programming lineup includes a second season of Salman Khan hosted 10 Ka Dum. Salman’s presence at the event debunked recent media reports of differences between him and Sony.

Recently back from filming in London, Salman was peeved with reports that he had 'harassed' Sony because they had slashed his paycheck for the second season of 10 Ka Dum.

“You keep writing false stories and when there is no reaction, the falsehood continues. If you react, more will be written,” Salman said.

"I was given big money in the first season. But, now it is recession time. The reduction in my fees for the second stint is not as much as it is being reported," he added.

Salman played politically correct when baited by a scribe who commented that TV shows hosted by rival Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar had not done so well.

Salman said he felt sorry that Shah Rukh hasn’t yet committed to a second season of Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? because the show gave everyone on this planet a chance to fame. As for Akshay and his Khatron Ke Khiladi was concerned he said, “I just wish him luck and wish that his show rocks.”

Salman who invited a lot of his celebrity friends on the first season of 10 Ka Dum was asked if he would invite Shah Rukh Khan on the show this year.

“Shah Rukh is more than welcome and I reckon he’ll be lucky enough to join me on 10 Ka Dum,” he joked.

“In fact I would love to have stars like Govinda, Sunny- with his cute smile, Dharam Ji and Sanjay Dutt on 10 Ka Dum. These people make the show interesting. As for the female celebrities I wish Madhuri and Sridevi would join me some time.”

“Since Sony is handling the celebrity aspect of 10 Ka Dum, I am completely clueless about it.”

Asked why he did not vote despite campaigning for so many political candidates during the recent Lok Sabha elections, Salman’s unguarded candor was endearing.

“I have campaigned only for my friends. And many of the election statistics say that only 29% and 47% people have voted in several regions, which shows people’s attitude towards the voting system. Secondly during the elections I was busy shooting and don’t have any big money and ample time like the other celebrities to travel all the way to vote and return back. I don’t like doing all this kind of show business.”

Kambakht Ishq Kambakht Kiss

It's not only her bathing costume scene from Kambhakt Ishq that Kareena Kapoor has contractually prevented from being aired or put on hoardings.

Apparently, there’s also a sensual kiss in Kambhakt Ishq she enjoys with Akshay Kumar that’s being given the miss. You won’t see that popping up on your television screen during the film’s promos.

Barring a fleeting peck with Fardeen Khan in Govind Nihalani’s Dev, the only time Kareena did a kissing scene was in Jab We Met with Shahid Kapoor whom she was then seeing. And, now she’s done one with Saif Ali Khan in Rensil D’Silva’s film.

Kissing Akshay in Kambhakt Ishq was problematic for Kareena. The actress was reportedly hesitant. Akshay was her sister Karisma’s co-star. As a 12-year-old, she had visited Karisma’s sets and hid shyly from him. And Akshay treats her like a kid. He’s very protective of her. So he, too, was hesitant. But they knew that the kiss comes at a point in the plot of in Kambhakt Ishq when an intimacy beyond the superficial had to be shown. Both stars took their respective soul mates into confidence before getting into it.

Neither Saif nor Twinkle minded. So, they kissed!

99 Movie Review

99 Review
The very thought of going to the cinemas gives you a high. The past five Fridays have been very unsettling, witnessing a few inconsequential releases, with the viewer looking everywhere but at the theatres. The practice of going back to a dark auditorium, the aroma of popcorn and samosas, comes to an end with 99, which opens at plexes and single screens, both.

99, helmed by Raj Nidimoru [Raj] and Krishna D.K. [D.K.], is a good looking film with some smart moments thrown in, towards the second hour mainly. In fact, it takes time to grasp things, the characters, the plotline. Besides, Raj and D.K. take their own sweet time to establish the characters, set things up and come to the point.

99 actually takes off in the second hour. From the time the lights are dimmed [post interval] to the time the lights are lit again [conclusion of the film], 99 keeps you engrossed in most parts.

The only problem is, it's too slow-paced at times and lengthy too, towards the penultimate moments. Just when you thought that the film has ended, another chase follows, which eventually leads to the finale. Final word? 99 is smart, good looking and interesting, in parts. Quite a ride this, if you don't go with much expectations! 99 is set in 1999. It's about two crooks [Kunal Khemu, Cyrus Broacha], who run the illegal SIM card duplicating business and who get embroiled in a major mess when they rob a car and worse, meet with an accident. The car belongs to a bookie/gangster [Mahesh Manjrekar], who asks them to reimburse the amount.

What follows is a big chase, from the streets of Mumbai to Delhi, with a number of characters now entering the story.

99 isn't Raj and D.K.'s debut film, but it's their debut film in Bollywood for sure. The best part is, the director duo come up with fresh ideas to make it look different. For instance, the characters that you watch in 99 have been witnessed a zillion times before, but the small-time crooks [Kunal, Cyrus], bookie/gangster [Mahesh Manjrekar], match fixer [Vinod Khanna], habitual gambler [Boman], his cheerless wife [Simone Singh], slimy bookie/recovery agent [Amit Mistry], an over-the-top Bhojpuri film actor and the hotel manager [Soha] appear so different. They're definitely not caricatures. Even otherwise, the approach to the story [Raj, D.K., Sita Menon] and the execution of the subject is a notch above the ordinary.

Notwithstanding the plusses, Raj and D.K. ought to know, being avid movie buffs themselves, making the viewer impatient isn't a positive sign. The film is sooooo slow [intermittently boring too] at times that it tests your patience. The film vacillates constantly, from energetic moments to tepid/boring stuff. Also, ideally, the film should've had a running time of 90 minutes [99 minutes, if the makers preferred], not 2 + hours.

There's not much scope for music in the film 99 and the song-pieces are well integrated in the plot. Rajeev Ravi's cinematography is eye-catching. Dialogues are well penned. Special mention must be made of the beginning titles, which are innovative. Cheragh Todiwala's editing is perfect in several scenes [sample these sequences: Kunal enters Vinod Khanna's suite in the hotel or the chase at Palika Bazaar towards the climax - well filmed, well edited sequences], but loose at times too.

99 is embellished with fine performances from an ensemble cast, but the one who stands out is Boman Irani. Here's a master stroke from this accomplished actor, yet again. Kunal Khemu is only getting better and more confident. The new look [hairstyle] suits him well. Soha is evolving into a fine actress. She's highly competent this time. Cyrus Broacha is, expectedly, funny and controlled. Film-makers have one more alternative while casting now.

Vinod Khanna is wonderfully relaxed, so is Mahesh Manjrekar. Simone Singh does well. Amit Mistry is exceptional. Here's a talent that needs to be lapped up!

On the whole, 99 appeals in parts, more towards the second half. The film holds appeal for the youth and should find patronage from this faction of moviegoers at multiplexes mainly.
